Jessica Ann Simpson was born on July 10, 1980 in Abilene, Texas. Jessica’s dad Joe was a psychologist and a minister in Texas; she is also the older sister to actress and singer Ashlee. Jessica began singing in her Baptist church choir in 1992. When she was 12 she discovered that she wanted to be on TV and asked her parents if she could audition for the Mickey Mouse Club, she made it to the finals but she failed to make the show. Had she made it, she would have been costars with Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake. She went back to Texas and continued to sing in the church choir.

When Jessica began attending J.J Pearce High School she was discovered singing at a church camp by an agent of a contemporary Christian record label. Jessica signed a record deal and began to record her first album but before the album could be released the record label closed down. Her dad Joe quit his job as a psychologist to become her manager. Jessica and Joe went to various Christian Youth Concert and Jessica became a fixture at some of these concerts. She performed with such acts as Kirk Franklin and Ce Ce Winans.

More and more people and not just the Christian music lovers were hearing her music. Jessica was receiving complements from pop music lovers and soon Joe and Jessica switched gears and began promoting a pop career. She did very well and soon Tommy Mottola himself had heard Jessica sing. Tommy had received a copy of a recording that Jessica did and he signed her to a record deal. Jessica soon joined the band 98 Degrees on tour, the band’s lead singer was none other than Nick Lachey. They began dating while they were on tour. They recorded a duet called Where You Are that was included in her debut album Sweet Kisses.
